Clocking Off a Job

When a mechanic is finished working on a particular job, he needs to clock off that job. He may be clocking off because the repair is done, he doesn't have the tools or parts needed to finish the job, he needs to work on a different or higher priority job, or he is ready to take a lunch break or go home. There are several methods for clocking off a job as described in the following sections. Clocking off a job will stop the time from accumulating for that job. The total labor hours for the job will automatically be calculated (from the clock on time to the clock off time for the job) and posted to the work order line by the RTA system. Completed jobs will be removed from the mechanic's list of scheduled jobs. Incomplete jobs will remain and be listed at the top of the mechanic's scheduled jobs list.

Clocking Off (Complete)

Clocking off complete indicates that the job is completely finished. To clock off complete, clock in and go to the Working on Vehicle window. Next, select Clock Off, Clock Off Job from the menu bar or click the CLOCK OFF JOB icon. At this point, depending on how the system switches are set, you may or may not be prompted for the following items:

  • Work accomplish code (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 40)
  • Mechanic wage rate (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 32)
  • Vehicle meter reading (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 5)
  • Close work order (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 24)
  • Vehicle Status (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 39)
  • Print work order (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 24)

Once the appropriate information has been entered for each prompt, the Mechanic Accountability Menu will be displayed and the mechanic can clock onto the desired option.

Clocking Off (Incomplete)

Clocking off incomplete indicates that the job is not yet finished—more work is needed but, for some reason, cannot be completed at this time. To clock off incomplete, clock in and go to the Working on Vehicle window. Next, select Clock Off, Clock Off (Incomplete) from the menu bar or click the CLOCK OFF INCOMPLETE icon. At this point, depending on how the system switches are set, you may or may not be prompted for the following items:

  • Mechanic wage rate (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 32)
  • Vehicle meter reading (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 5)
  • Vehicle Status (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 39)
  • Print work order (SSI, Miscellaneous I tab, line 24)

Once the appropriate information has been entered for each prompt, the Mechanic Accountability Menu will be displayed and the mechanic can clock onto the desired option.

Clocking Off for Lunch

There are two ways to clock off for lunch. One way to clock off for lunch is to select Clock Off, Lunch Break from the menu bar or click the LUNCH icon from the Working on Vehicle window. Clocking off for lunch this way will cause the RTA system to clock the mechanic off from the current job with an incomplete status. If the mechanic has completed the current job, he will need to clock off complete from the job first and then select Clock off for Lunch from the Mechanic Accountability Menu.
When the lunch break is over, all the mechanic has to do is clock back in and clock onto a scheduled or indirect job. This will automatically clock the mechanic off from the lunch break and onto the new job.

Clocking Off for the Day

When the mechanic is ready to go home, make sure he clocks off before leaving. It is important to do so in order for the system to properly compute the timecard, accountability, productivity and more. Clocking off for the day is similar to clocking off for lunch. There are two ways to clock off for the day. One way to clock off for the day is to select Clock Off, End of Shift from the menu bar or click the END OF SHIFT icon from the Working on Vehicle window. Clocking off this way will cause the RTA system to clock the mechanic off from the current job with an incomplete status. If the mechanic has completed the current job, he will need to clock off complete from the job first and then select Clock off for the day (end of shift) from the Mechanic Accountability Menu.
